Gentlemanly Pursuits

After one of my last posts I decided to check out the Chivalry Tag

lemonayde:

It’s basically equal parts ‘Chivalry is deeeeaaaad’ and ‘Chivalry is sexist bullsh*t’

Perhaps we have different definitions of Chivalry? I believe both men and women can (and should) practice chivalry. To me it’s a code of behavior that goes beyond mere etiquette and politesse. Chivalry is displaying a sense of valor and honor. It’s defending those who need to be defended. It’s behaving with dignity. It’s grace under fire. It’s respecting other people’s boundaries and beliefs without compromising your own. It’s largesse to the poor. It’s opening a door for some one, or pulling out their chair for them. It’s offering to carry the heavy load they look like they’re having trouble with. It doesn’t matter If that person is young or old, male or female, homely or lovely, you offer help because that’s just a thing you should do.

At least, these are the standards I hold myself to. Is it so hard to believe that there are others who do as well? :/
